    Spring Training

    Spring Training

March is a great time of year. Spring officially starts, the weather starts to warm up, college basketball playoffs are in full swing and spring training for all MLB teams is underway.  It’s a great time to pack up the RV and head on out to catch some sporting action.

The Grapefruit League of the MLB, consisting of 15 teams, makes their home away from home in sunny Florida every March.  Five of these teams have home fields along the beautiful Gulf of Mexico.  Who wouldn’t want to spend their spring vacation watching some baseball and catching some rays?  So if you are a fan of the Orioles, Blue Jays, Phillies, Yankees, or the Pirates, swing on over to the gulf coast and play scout for a day… or five.  Watching spring training games are a perfect time to get to know the new players on the teams and see how they measure up to the veterans.  You also get the opportunity to see your favorites play a few innings and maybe even get a few autographs.

Spring training is also a great time to catch a friendly game between rivals before the pressure of the regular season starts in April.  Tickets are usually a third of the cost of regular season tickets, and the stadiums are slightly smaller so there’s not a bad seat in the house.  They often have celebrities such as Will Ferrell come out and throw a few with the team, like he did this past week in Arizona.

Spring training games are great time to spend with the family as well, and everyone can go since the tickets are more affordable. So pack up the kids during their spring break and head on down to Florida for a little piece of America’s pastime.

RV Parks are in abundance along the gulf coast.  If you are traveling to watch the Phillies in Clearwater, FL the Clearwater Travel Resort is only a few miles from Bright House Field and has all the amenities you’d need at an RV Park.  There is a pool for the kids to play in and for Mom to lounge by, a pet walk for your furry friend to enjoy, and hi-speed internet to stream the games you don’t go to.

If you are fans of the Pirates, Indian Rocks Travel Park is close to McKechnie Field in Bradenton, FL.  They are a full service RV Park close to shopping, restaurants and the beach of course.  They also offer free cable TV and free Wi-Fi.

No matter where you stay there are plenty of options near your favorite teams’ spring training Ball Park.  Visit www.mlb.com for a list of other teams in the Grapefruit league and to view game info and purchase tickets.
