Florida Camping Activities
In the daytime, there is nothing like setting up camp in Florida with the waves rolling in and your toes in the sand. But what some people might not know is that the fun doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down.
In fact, the fun is just getting started!
If you are traveling to the east coast of Florida this summer, you can enjoy these special adventures that only happen when it is dark outside.
Bioluminescent Night Kayaking
I know, they lost us at bioluminescent as well, but if you can get by the big words, this night kayaking experience is actually really cool!
This activity offers people the chance to kayak in waters that actually light up as you paddle down the prettiest parts of the Indian River Lagoon.
So how does the water light up you might ask?
The water is illuminated by tiny plankton that produce streaks of neon-green light when gently moved by the paddles. So in short, by moving the paddles of your kayak, you are making the plankton move as well, causing them to emit light for a truly unique experience.
If you are looking to take your crew on a truly spectacular journey, try night kayaking!
Sea Turtle Spotting
Have you ever wanted to see one of the best underwater creatures up close?
You can catch one of nature’s greatest stories as different sea turtles swim out of the ocean to lay their eggs in the sand at night.
Sea Turtles lay their eggs on land and at night to give their young the best chance to survive. By laying them at night, the chances to be spotted on land are less than during daylight.
After the turtles are hatched, the young have a tough journey to make it from the sand to the water in a timely fashion. If you can get a look, the journey to the sea is always amazing to watch.
Nighttime Rocket Launches
Are you interested in space or rockets? If you are, Florida is the place to be!
If you can get a spot, Jetty Park’s beachside campground offers great views of rocket launches that take place at nearby Kennedy Space Center.
There are several launches planned this summer, and getting a chance to see a live rocket launch is something not a lot of people get to do.
If you are interested in taking a trip to Florida's east coast for some camping and nighttime activities, do so in an RV from RV Connections!
