How to Beach Camp
Here in Panama City we know that Beach Camping is a hit! The fresh air, toes in the sand and the refreshing waters make beach camping one of the main attractions when coming to Florida to camp.
But for most first time beach campers, sometimes the change of scenery from traditional camping to beach camping leaves you forgetting things you should have brought!
Here are some great beach camping tips for things to bring as well as ideas to make your beach camping experience top notch!
1. Bring Appropriate Clothes and Equipment
Unlike traditional camping, beach camping requires more equipment for activities. You are on the beach, so make sure that you bring clothes and equipment that is appropriate. Trade in the hiking boots for flip flops, and make sure your clothing is waterproof. These are essential to making sure that you are prepared for the beach.
In addition to your clothes, bring equipment that is suitable for the water! Boogie boards are among the most popular items people bring with them when beach camping. One thing to be aware of is that if you bring flotation devices, do not stray far from the shore with them. While floating might seem harmless, the ocean does bring a strong current and it can disorient you, leading you farther away from the shore than you would like.
Other items you might want to include in your trip are:
- Sport Balls
- Buckets for sand castles
- Water Shoes
- Plenty of Sun Screen
2. Find a Place to Set up Camp
The most important thing to remember when beach camping is to make sure that the beach you want to stay on allows overnight camping.
Once you have the go ahead from the beach, you will need to make sure your camp is far enough from the shore in order to avoid the rising tides at night. Nothing is worse than waking up in a tent full of water and your stuff soaking wet.
If bonfires are allowed, this can offer a very peaceful and relaxing setting before hitting the hay.
3. Enjoy Each Other
Beach Camping is all about switching things up and trying something different. Make sure your number one priority is always to have fun!
No matter what activities you may end up choosing or what you have to bring with you, being on the beach and being surrounded by people you care about is all that matters.
